Chosen for the inaugural Artist Led Production Initiative, this feel-good musical will charm audiences at the Pott’s Point venue from 24 August 2018.

She Loves Me is based on Miklos Laszlo’s original stage play Parfumerie which was later adapted into the films The Shop Around the Corner, In the Good Old Summertime and most recently the 1994 film You’ve Got Mail.

First time director Erin James says “She Loves Me is a timeless story about relationships, communication and the fantasy worlds we create to escape the daily grind. Anonymous messaging and online dating are the younger cousins of the lonely-hearts columns of old, and although our current communication methods have advanced beyond the handwritten letters we see in the show, the hearts of humans have not. Whether communication be instantaneous or via snail mail in the post, hearts skip a beat when reading a message from someone special. Even if that someone is a stranger.”

Director Erin James is the recipient of the inaugural Artist Led Initiative and is a highly esteemed performer in numerous large-scale productions including GFO/ Opera Australia’s My Fair Lady and The King and I. Joining James is musical director Steven Kreamer (ASSASSINS, Little Shop of Horrors), choreographer Leslie Bell (Big River) with costumes and set design by Isabel Hudson (The View UpStairs, Dry Land).

“I am thrilled and honoured to be directing this gorgeous musical for Hayes Theatre Co’s inaugural Artist Led Initiative, supported by a wonderful team. I love it, and I can’t wait to bring these ‘Dear Friends’ to life”, James said in a statement earlier today.

Featuring the songs ‘Vanilla Ice-Cream’, ‘Tonight at Eight’ and ‘Will He Like Me?’, She Loves Me is a witty and enchanting chamber musical that will charm everyone’s socks off.

Erin joined the cast of Australian period drama A Place To Call Home for season 4 episode 7.

Portraying the role of Aussie stage icon Jill Perryman, Erin’s voice also features in the episode as she sings the duet ‘I Wonder Why’ with fellow singer/actor Shaun Rennie.

The episode aired on Foxtel in Australia on Sunday 23 October 2016 (Erin’s birthday.)

My Best Friend Is Stuck On The Ceiling starring Tom Ward and Erin James

The Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) is the third Australian Festival to screen comedy short film My Best Friend Is Stuck on the Ceiling, starring Erin James and Tom Ward.

The film will be shown as part of the Australian Shorts program at the festival, which runs from 28 July – 14 August, 2016.

Produced by Sophie Hyde and Christine Williams for Closer Productions and written and directed by Matt Vesely, ‘Ceiling‘ is a romantic comedy with a bit of sumthin-sumthin added in for good measure. The short follows Connor (Ward) who secretly in love with his best friend Rach (James).

Screening at Hoyts Melbourne Central at 1:30pm on 7 August and 11:15am on 14 August.

Erin will be joining the My Fair Lady company in July as Opera Australia and the Gordon Frost Organisation’s co-production prepares for a limited season at the iconic Sydney Opera House.

The Lerner and Loewe musical is based on George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion and has not played in Australia since Opera Australia’s last production in 2008.

Dame Julie Andrews will direct the production and Tony Award winning choreographer Christopher Gattelli will choreograph the show.

Erin will be Dance Captain for the production.
